DESIGN, DEVELOPMENT & PLANNING
Creating compelling visions and concepts that rise to meet the challenges and needs of the client. Providing early concept designs, masterplans, feasibility studies, business models and development strategies that illuminate project potentials and opportunities. Creating high quality images and presentations that capture imagination, drive discussion and facilitate client decision making.
Guiding and orchestrating large teams of design professionals across all disciplines. Ensuring all participants understand and advance the client's vision, budget and schedule requirements. Overseeing the coordination and de-confliction of both competing and complimentary design inputs in a positive and collaborative environment.
Creating new physical, spatial and contextual solutions that enhance client operations, organization, growth and identity. Unique designs that intertwine client requirements with site specific opportunities, constraints and urban context. Creating new spaces that inspire, intrigue and delight; that project client identity, values and mission; that contribute and enhance the surrounding public realm.
Thank you for visiting my website. I hope you enjoy it. A little background on myself. I am a licensed architect with many years in the profession. Much of my work has been international, living and working in countries ranging from Qatar to Japan to Egypt. In all, I have lived and worked in seven foreign countries as well as numerous states in the US including Texas, California, Pennsylvania and New York.
My projects tend toward large-scale, institutional and mixed use and have evolved over the years to include numerous international mega-projects. Such projects include Mall of Qatar (a 4.6M sqft complex valued at over $1.2B); Private Palace Compound (valued at $1.09B); Nile Corniche (a 5-star hotel and residences valued at $980M) and Emiri Terminal (valued at over $350M).
In some cases, I have played the role of Design Director and Design Manager overseeing the work of renowned international design teams who have carried out the detailed design process. In others, I have acted as the lead designer or master planner and have personally developed the designs with my immediate support team. With minor exception, all of the designs shown on this website are my own personal efforts.
I have considerable experience as both a traditional architectural service provider and numerous client-side roles. I have worked as a Development Director, Owner Representative, Design-Build Construction Manager and Client-side Design Manager. These roles have allowed me to view the design process through the eyes of the client and to understand and promote their needs and priorities.
My formal training at the Wharton School of Business has provided a financial and analytic perspective to the design and development process that allows for direct collaboration with the parallel activities of feasibility studies, due diligence, marketing research and development proformas. My years of working on-site in construction also provides the client with a personal perspective on project constructability, stakeholder management, value engineering and construction phasing.
In short, I love design. But I also love the design process and the many complexities and demands that come with it. Good design is more than aesthetics. It is complex problem solving at its best that engages and optimizes a wide array of competing demands, aspirations, technicalities, expectations, limitations, possibilities, constraints and visions. And good design makes the world a better place. I wish you the very best in your next project!
